Volkswagen is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup in Canada with the upcoming ID.3 Neo GTI, a hot hatch variant of the ID.3 Neo. The new model was recently spotted testing in Germany, revealing a sleek design with modified front and rear bumpers, performance brakes, and unique wheels. The ID.3 Neo GTI is expected to retain a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) powertrain, unlike the ID. Polo GTI, which features a front-mounted electric motor.
Although Volkswagen has not announced Canadian pricing for the ID.3 Neo GTI, the standard ID.3 Neo is expected to be eligible for the Canadian government's iZEV incentive program, which offers up to $5,000 in rebates for eligible electric vehicles. Additionally, some provinces, such as British Columbia and Quebec, offer their own rebates, which can range from $1,000 to $3,000. The ID. Polo GTI, on the other hand, is expected to start at under $50,000 in Canada, although official pricing has not been announced.
The ID.3 Neo GTI is expected to feature Volkswagen's most powerful drive unit, delivering 240 kW (322 hp) of power. This is significantly more than the ID. Polo GTI, which produces 166 kW (222 hp). The added power will likely result in a reduced driving range, with estimates suggesting up to 600 km (373 miles) on a single charge, based on the WLTP testing cycle. The standard ID.3 Neo, on the other hand, has a WLTP driving range of up to 630 km (391 miles) with the larger 79 kWh battery.
The ID.3 Neo GTI will feature Volkswagen's new design theme, with an upgraded infotainment system and added physical buttons. The cabin will include a 10.25″ (26 cm) Digital Cockpit and a 12.9″ central touchscreen display, as well as added GTI badging, a new GTI sports steering wheel, and premium sports seats. The ID.3 Neo is expected to launch in Canada in the coming months, with the GTI variant following by the end of the year. As with other Volkswagen models, the ID.3 Neo GTI will be available at Canadian Volkswagen dealerships, with test drives and viewings available at select centre locations.
