Canadian drivers of BYD electric vehicles will soon have access to a convenient in-car service called ParkPay, which simplifies the process of finding and paying for parking. This service is a result of a collaboration between BYD and Parkopedia, and it is expected to launch in Europe in 2027, with potential availability in Canada in the future. ParkPay will utilize Parkopedia's extensive parking data and payment services, allowing drivers to locate the nearest parking spots, check their availability, and pay for parking directly through their vehicle's infotainment system.
The ParkPay service will be integrated into BYD's mobility app and will come pre-installed in new BYD vehicles, including the Denza Z9 GT and BYD Atto 3 Evo. Older BYD models will receive the service through over-the-air (OTA) updates. Initially, ParkPay will focus on parking, but it plans to expand its features to include EV charging, toll payments, and parking reservations. Canadian drivers can expect to benefit from this service, especially when combined with the country's existing electric vehicle incentives, such as the iZEV program, which offers rebates of up to $5,000 for eligible vehicles.
BYD is committed to making advanced technologies accessible to a wide audience, as stated by Stella Li, the company's executive vice president. The introduction of the Denza Z9 GT in Europe marks the beginning of BYD's global rollout of FLASH Charging, which boasts impressive charging speeds. With up to 1,500 kW of charging power, vehicles equipped with BYD's Blade Battery and Flash Charging technology can recharge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes. This technology has the potential to remove barriers to electric vehicle adoption in Canada, where long driving distances and cold temperatures can be a concern.
The Denza Z9 GT is available to order in Europe, with pricing starting at €115,000 ($134,500 CAD) for the electric version. This luxury electric shooting brake features a 122.49 kWh battery, three electric motors, and a WLTP driving range of 599 km (372 miles). While Canadian pricing has not been announced, it is expected to be competitive with other luxury electric vehicles available in the Canadian market. With the Canadian government's incentives and provincial rebates, such as those offered in British Columbia and Quebec, the Denza Z9 GT may become a more affordable option for Canadian drivers. As the Canadian electric vehicle market continues to grow, the introduction of ParkPay and BYD's advanced EV technology is likely to have a significant impact on the industry.
