The highly anticipated Range Rover Electric is expected to arrive in the Canadian market by the end of 2026, boasting an impressive electric powertrain that outperforms its gas-powered counterpart. According to Lennard Hoornik, JLR's chief growth officer, the Range Rover EV will be the "best" version of the luxury vehicle, offering a quieter drive and more power. However, Canadian buyers can expect a hefty price tag, potentially exceeding $200,000, which may qualify for the Canadian government's iZEV incentives and provincial rebates, such as those offered in British Columbia and Quebec.
While official pricing has not been announced, Hoornik hinted that the Range Rover Electric will be positioned as a premium product, with a price to match. The current gas-powered Range Rover starts at around $165,000 in Germany, and the electric version may be priced even higher. In the UK, the electric version is expected to cost around $200,900, comparable to the Autobiography edition. The Range Rover Electric will feature a 118 kWh battery, providing a range of 600 kilometres, as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain delivering 542 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.
The Range Rover Electric will be one of five new EVs launched by JLR over the next 18 months, with the smaller, more affordable Sport EV to follow. Canadian buyers can expect to see the Range Rover Electric at dealerships across the country, with pricing and trim levels tailored to the Canadian market. The vehicle may be eligible for provincial rebates, such as the Ontario government's Electric Vehicle Incentive Program, and the Canadian government's iZEV incentives, which offer up to $5,000 in rebates for eligible vehicles.
JLR is committed to an electric future, with plans to launch several new EVs in the coming years. The company will focus on leasing, offering longer plans while becoming more involved in the resale process to preserve resale value. By managing inventory and limiting sales, JLR aims to ensure that the market is not oversaturated with stock, maintaining the value of their luxury vehicles. As the Canadian market continues to shift towards electric vehicles, JLR is poised to play a significant role, with the Range Rover Electric leading the charge.
