Rivian has removed the Dual Standard variants of its R1S and R1T electric vehicles from its configurator, marking the end of the company's cheapest models. The move was anticipated, as Rivian had announced in March that it would be refining its R1 vehicle lineup and discontinuing the Dual Standard models. In Canada, the R1S Dual Standard was priced at $76,990 before fees and options, while the Dual Standard R1T cost $72,990.
The discontinuation of the Dual Standard models means that the new cheapest R1S, the R1S Dual, will start at $83,990, and the lowest-priced R1T will be $79,990. However, Canadian buyers may be interested in the upcoming R2 model, which is expected to be more affordable, with a starting price of around $57,990 for the R2 Performance with Launch Package. A more budget-friendly version of the R2, priced at around $45,000, is slated for release next year. Canadian buyers may also be eligible for the iZEV incentive, which offers a rebate of up to $5,000 for eligible electric vehicles, as well as provincial rebates, such as those offered in British Columbia and Quebec.
The discontinued Dual Standard models featured a pair of motors and Rivian's smallest battery option, with an EPA-estimated range of 270 miles. In comparison, the Large pack in the Dual models offers an EPA-estimated range of 329 miles. While the Dual Standard models are no longer available, Canadian buyers can still explore other options in Rivian's lineup, including the R1S and R1T, which offer a range of up to 517 kilometres, depending on the configuration. With the discontinuation of the Dual Standard models, Rivian is streamlining its lineup to focus on more popular models, and the upcoming R2 is expected to be a key player in the Canadian electric vehicle market.
