Nissan has announced several exciting updates for the Canadian market as it navigates through recent financial challenges. These announcements promise to refresh its lineup with affordable and innovative vehicles.
In a significant development, Nissan confirmed that the next-generation Nissan Leaf will make its debut in both the U.S. and Canada before launching in Japan or Europe. The Leaf is scheduled for a full reveal later this year, with sales expected to commence in fiscal year 2025, meaning later in 2025 or by March 31, 2026.
This new Leaf will feature an elevated seating position and a crossover-like profile, taking inspiration from Nissan’s 2021 Chill-Out concept. It will also include a Tesla NACS port, enhancing its compatibility with popular charging networks across Canada. The upcoming Leaf will incorporate liquid-cooling technology and advanced features from the Ariya, offering improved range and efficiency. With its stylish design and competitive pricing, the Leaf will be well-positioned to compete with the 2026 Chevy Bolt EV, which is expected to be the most affordable EV in the U.S. due to its use of LFP batteries.
Alongside the Leaf, Nissan plans to introduce a 2026 Nissan Rogue plug-in hybrid. This model will utilise a system similar to the one found in the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The Rogue plug-in hybrid is also slated for fiscal year 2025, meaning it will arrive in Canada either later in 2025 or by March 31, 2026.
By early 2026, Nissan will launch a new generation of the Sentra compact sedan and a refreshed Pathfinder SUV. While the company hasn't confirmed whether these models will feature hybrid powertrains, Canadian drivers can expect updated designs and potentially new features.
In fiscal year 2026 (by March 31, 2027), Nissan will introduce a completely new generation of the Rogue for the Canadian market. This new Rogue will offer both plug-in hybrid and e-Power series hybrid options. Previous statements from Nissan executives suggest that the Rogue Hybrid will be a mainstream model, rather than a niche offering, making hybrid power more accessible to Canadian consumers.
Looking further ahead, Nissan plans to ramp up production of an adventure-focused SUV at its Canton, Mississippi plant in early 2028. Following this, an Infiniti electric SUV will be launched later that year. The Infiniti EV will draw inspiration from the Vision QXe concept, which debuted before the 2023 Tokyo auto show. This concept introduced Nissan’s new Artistry in Motion design direction. Initially, Infiniti had indicated that the Vision QXe previewed a sleek sedan for the Canton plant, but the recent announcement suggests an SUV may take precedence.
Canadian buyers should also be aware of the various provincial incentives and rebates available for electric and hybrid vehicles. Programs such as iZEV ( Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles) can significantly reduce the cost of purchasing an EV. Additionally, provincial rebates and federal incentives like the Canada Summer Jobs Strategy may offer further financial benefits. It's advisable to check with local provincial agencies and dealerships for the most current information on availability and incentives.
These announcements from Nissan are set to bring a wave of new, efficient, and stylish vehicles to the Canadian market, offering more choices for eco-conscious consumers.
