At the EV & Charging Expo 2026, several industry leaders were celebrated for their outstanding contributions to Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. Among the awardees, BC Hydro stood out, receiving recognition as the nation’s leading EV charging network at the inaugural ChargeHub Awards. This acknowledgment highlights BC Hydro’s pivotal role in supporting Canada’s transition to clean energy.
The awards ceremony, held during the Expo, saw trophies presented to several key players in Canada’s EV sector. Alongside BC Hydro, other notable companies such as Circuit électric, FLO, Hypercharge, and Tesla were also honoured for their exceptional work in advancing electric vehicle infrastructure across the country.
BC Hydro, a publicly owned utility based in British Columbia, has been at the forefront of developing a robust and reliable EV charging network throughout the province—and increasingly, across Canada. Its extensive network of fast-charging stations supports drivers nationwide, making long-distance travel in electric vehicles more feasible and worry-free.
The recognition at the ChargeHub Awards underscores BC Hydro’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. With numerous charging stations strategically located along major highways and in urban centres, BC Hydro ensures that Canadian EV owners have access to convenient charging options. This is particularly important in provinces like British Columbia, where the government has been proactive in promoting EVs through various incentives and rebates.
For Canadian EV buyers, numerous incentives are available to make the switch to electric vehicles more affordable. The iZEV (Innovative Clean Energy Vehicle) Program, for example, offers rebates to purchasers of eligible, zero-emission vehicles. Amounts vary by province; in British Columbia, buyers can receive up to $4,000 back, while Ontario offers up to $13,000 for new EV purchases.
In addition to federal and provincial rebates, many municipalities and utility companies, including BC Hydro, provide their own incentives. These can include additional cash-back offers, reduced electricity rates for EV charging, and free or discounted charging sessions at public stations. These incentives are designed to offset the initial cost of purchasing an EV and to encourage more Canadians to adopt cleaner transportation methods.
The ChargeHub Awards also celebrated other significant contributors to Canada’s EV infrastructure:
Circuit électric: This Montreal-based company has developed an extensive network of fast-charging stations across Quebec and other provinces. Their stations are often found in convenient locations such as shopping centres, hotels, and business parks, making it easier for EV drivers to charge their vehicles while running errands or travelling.
FLO: A leader in smart charging solutions, FLO provides residential and commercial charging stations that integrate seamlessly with home energy systems. Their technology allows users to optimise charging times and costs, taking advantage of off-peak electricity rates. FLO’s solutions are particularly popular in provinces with high electricity costs, offering a practical way to manage expenses.
Hypercharge: Specialising in fast-charging technology, Hypercharge has deployed numerous high-powered charging stations across Canada. These stations can charge EVs to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes, significantly reducing downtime for EV owners. Hypercharge’s focus on rapid deployment and strategic placement ensures that Canadian drivers have access to reliable fast-charging wherever they travel.
Tesla: Known globally for its EVs, Tesla also received an award for its Supercharger network in Canada. Tesla’s network is one of the most extensive in the country, with Supercharger stations located along major routes and in urban areas. Tesla owners can charge their vehicles for free at these stations, although non-Tesla drivers can also use them for a fee. The expansion of Tesla’s Supercharger network plays a crucial role in encouraging more Canadians to consider electric vehicles.
The recognition of these companies at the ChargeHub Awards highlights the progress Canada has made in developing its EV infrastructure. As more Canadians adopt electric vehicles, the demand for reliable and accessible charging solutions continues to grow. Governments and private companies are responding with investments in new charging stations, improved technology, and supportive policies.
Provincial governments across Canada are implementing policies to support EV adoption. For example, Ontario’s Drive Clean strategy includes substantial financial incentives for EV buyers and investments in charging infrastructure. Similarly, Alberta has introduced programs to install fast-charging stations along major highways, ensuring that EV drivers can travel across the province without range anxiety.
The expansion of EV charging networks is also being supported by federal initiatives. The Canadian government’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 includes funding for charging infrastructure, as part of the broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector.
The inaugural ChargeHub Awards underscore the significant strides Canada is making in establishing a comprehensive and reliable EV charging network. With BC Hydro leading the charge and other companies like Circuit électric, FLO, Hypercharge, and Tesla contributing their expertise, the future looks promising for electric vehicle owners across the country. As infrastructure continues to improve and incentives remain attractive, more Canadians are likely to make the switch to electric vehicles, driving us closer to a sustainable, low-emission future.
