VinFast Achieves Milestone in Electric Two-Wheelers

VinFast, a Vietnamese electric vehicle company, is often recognized for its lineup of electric SUVs in international markets. However, the company has also made significant strides in the electric two-wheeler industry, recently producing its one millionth electric scooter. This milestone highlights the immense growth of the Asian e-mobility market, with VinFast at the centre of this trend. The millionth vehicle, a red Feliz II electric scooter, was manufactured at VinFast's complex in Hai Phong and features a removable battery system that can be charged at home or swapped at dedicated battery exchange stations.

Battery Swapping Strategy

VinFast's approach to battery swapping is particularly noteworthy, as it has gained traction in several Asian markets where dense urban populations and apartment living make home charging less convenient. In contrast to the plug-in charging methods prevalent in Western countries, battery swapping offers a convenient alternative for urban commuters. VinFast has invested heavily in building a network of charging and battery swap locations across Vietnam and is working to expand this concept to other regional markets. Canadian consumers, who are eligible for iZEV incentives and provincial rebates for purchasing electric vehicles, may be interested in VinFast's innovative approach to electric mobility.

Expansion and Growth

VinFast launched its first electric scooter, the Klara, in 2018 and has since developed a lineup of nearly 15 model families and over 30 variants, ranging from affordable urban commuters to larger premium scooters. The company's sales have been impressive, with over 406,000 electric motorcycles sold in 2025 alone, supported by nearly 750 authorized dealerships and service centres throughout Vietnam. As VinFast expands its manufacturing capacity, including a new electric motorcycle factory in central Vietnam, and grows its presence in markets such as Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Thailand, and Malaysia, it is likely that Canadian consumers will take notice of the company's electric two-wheelers.
