Polestar, the Swedish electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer known for models like the Polestar 2 and the unconventional Polestar 4, has kicked off the year with record-breaking sales. The Geely-backed automaker reported selling approximately 13,126 vehicles globally from January to March, marking a 7% year-over-year increase.
While Polestar didn’t disclose specific sales figures for individual models or countries, the company attributes this growth to strong performance in key markets such as Australia, Germany, Sweden, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. Generous discounts also played a role in boosting these figures.
Polestar 3 Production and Canadian Availability
In the United States, production of the Polestar 3 is underway, and Canadian drivers can expect this luxury electric SUV to arrive in showrooms later this year. Canadian pricing for the Polestar 3 starts at just under $150,000 before incentives, making it one of the more premium options in the Canadian EV market.
Expanding Dealership Network in Canada
Polestar’s sales growth is also supported by an expanding dealership network. The brand increased its retail sales points by 50% compared to the first quarter of last year, growing from 154 to 230 locations globally. In Canada, Polestar has been expanding its presence, with dealerships now available in major cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary. By the end of the year, Polestar aims to reach approximately 250 sales points worldwide, a 20% increase from the end of 2025.
In Canada, drivers can take advantage of federal and provincial incentives to lower the cost of their new Polestar. The federal iZEV program offers up to $4,000 off, while provincial rebates vary. For example, Ontario offers an additional $1,000 rebate, and British Columbia provides a rebate of up to $1,500.
Future Models and Canadian Market Strategy
Polestar is betting on a broader product portfolio and a more efficient manufacturing footprint to sustain its growth. By the end of 2026, the Polestar 5 grand touring sports car and a station wagon version of the Polestar 4 will join the lineup. This will be followed by the second generation of the Polestar 2 entry-level sedan and the Polestar 7 compact SUV in 2028.
Currently, Polestar offers the Polestar 2 (discontinued in the U.S. but still available in Canada), the Polestar 4 crossover, and the Polestar 3 SUV. Production of the Polestar 4 in China will cease by the end of this year, with all manufacturing shifting to the U.S., specifically utilising Volvo’s plant in South Carolina.
