The Skoda Peaq, pronounced 'peak', is the latest flagship offering from the Czech automaker, boasting a unique blend of qualities that set it apart from its competitors. As a fully electric three-row SUV, the Peaq is expected to be priced competitively, with a starting price under €50,000 ($56,700 CAD), making it an attractive option for Canadian buyers. With the Canadian government's iZEV incentives and provincial rebates, the Peaq's pricing will be even more competitive in the Canadian market.
The Peaq prioritizes interior room, offering a cavernous 33 cubic feet (935 litres) trunk in its base five-seater version. Even the three-row seven-seater variant has a respectable 10.5 cubic feet (299 litres) of cargo space. Folding the third row frees up 31.4 cu-ft (890 litres) of space, making it an ideal choice for families or those who need ample cargo room. With its 116.7-inch (2,965 mm) wheelbase and total length of just shy of 192 inches (4,874 mm), the Peaq is a spacious vehicle that still boasts three rows of seats.
The Peaq features Skoda's new family face, known as the Tech-Deck Face, and design language, which is slightly toned down from the 7S concept. It is also the first Skoda to feature flush door handles, contributing to its excellent 0.249 drag coefficient. Inside, the Peaq debuts Skoda's new 13.6-inch vertical infotainment screen, running an Android-based operating system. Optional features include an expansive 22.8-square-foot (2.12-square-metre) electrochromic roof and a Comfort Package that adds premium touches such as electric, heated, and cooled seats with AGR ergonomic certification and a massage function.
The Peaq is built on the Volkswagen MEB platform and comes with two battery pack sizes. The base rear-wheel drive Peaq 60 has a 63-kilowatt-hour battery, giving it an expected WLTP range of 280 miles (450 km). The Peaq 90 gets a larger 91 kWh pack, boosting range to 398 miles (640 km). The dual-motor Peaq 90x has a lower range of 379 miles (610 km) but offers a modest power increase. All Peaq variants support bidirectional charging with V2L, V2H, and V2G functionality, making it a great option for Canadian buyers who want to take advantage of the country's growing EV charging infrastructure.
While the Peaq isn't the quickest-charging new EV, with a peak charging speed of 160 kilowatts for the base 60 model and 199 kW for the large-battery variants, it still charges from 10-80% in 27 minutes and 28 minutes, respectively. As for Canadian availability, Skoda has not yet announced a release date for the Peaq in Canada, but it is expected to be available in the near future. With its competitive pricing, spacious interior, and impressive range, the Skoda Peaq is sure to be a popular choice among Canadian EV buyers.
