Tesla has launched its Spring Update 2026 software, bringing over a dozen new features to its vehicle fleet across Canada. The update includes several enhancements designed to improve the ownership experience, particularly for those driving in our diverse climates and urban centres.
The most significant functional change in this update is the redesigned Self-Driving app, tailored for vehicles equipped with Tesla’s AI4 (HW4) hardware. Canadian owners can now subscribe to Full Self-Driving (Supervised) with a single tap at $99.99 per month. The new interface also features a dedicated stats dashboard, tracking Self-Driving usage with a daily streak counter and a breakdown of total kilometres driven with and without the feature active. This gamification is intended to encourage subscriptions and continued use.
Tesla’s Grok integration has been upgraded, allowing Canadian owners to launch Grok hands-free by simply saying “Hey Grok” — no need to tap the screen. The voice assistant can now set location-based reminders, such as “remind me to pick up milk when I’m near home.” While this is an improvement over the initial 2025 release, Grok still lacks control over climate, media, and other core vehicle functions — a feature offered by competitors like Mercedes with its MBUX voice assistant.
Tesla has expanded Pet Mode with three distinct animated characters: a dog, a cat, and a hedgehog, dubbed “Cyberhog.” The Cyberhog appears in pixel sunglasses and a Hawaiian shirt, adding a fun touch for pet-loving owners. Canadian drivers can also customise the screen with their pet’s name via Controls > Display > Customize Pet Mode.
The new Model 3 and Model Y feature a redesigned park scene environment with higher-quality car rendering. The visualization now shows the vehicle in a dark, reflective studio setting. Additionally, multi-trip energy tracking has been introduced, allowing owners to monitor consumption across different drives. The trip card displays Wh/km, total kWh consumed, distance, and duration — useful for those tackling long Canadian winters and varied driving conditions.
Tesla has added a new visual safety layer to its blind spot monitoring. The accent lights on the vehicle now glow red when a turn signal is active and a vehicle is in the blind spot, or when an approaching object is detected while the car is parked. This improvement provides visual redundancy alongside existing audible alerts, enhancing safety for Canadian drivers.
Newer Model 3 and Model Y vehicles equipped with premium audio now feature a “Premium Immersive Sound” mode. This mode uses spatial audio processing to create a wider, more detailed soundstage, compatible with all streaming sources and adjustable in the audio settings — perfect for long drives across the country.
Perhaps the most practical change for Canadian owners is the new auto-install feature for software updates. Vehicles can now automatically install downloaded updates overnight while parked and unused, eliminating the need for manual approval. This can be enabled via Controls > Software > Automatically Install Updates — a welcome change for those who want their car to stay current without constant interaction.
Tesla has overhauled its weather maps with better colour coding, making it easier to distinguish between snow and rain. A new retrospective view allows owners to scroll back through the past hour of weather data — particularly useful for navigating Canada’s unpredictable weather. The dashcam buffer has also been expanded from the previous limit to a full 24 hours of rolling footage, providing more comprehensive recording capabilities.
For Canadian drivers, it’s important to note that these updates are available on all new and existing Tesla models across the country. Additionally, Canadian owners may benefit from provincial rebates and the iZEV (Innovative Clean Energy Vehicle) incentive program, which can reduce the overall cost of purchasing a Tesla. Be sure to check with your provincial government for specific details on available incentives.
These updates aim to enhance the driving experience for Canadians, offering more convenience, safety, and personalisation options.
