Nissan Juke Electric Model Debuts as Bold New Design

Nissan Juke Electric Model Debuts as Bold New Design

    Key Takeaways

    • Nissan announces an electric Juke set to launch in Europe in 2027, featuring a distinctive design inspired by the 2024 Hyper Punk concept and expected to offer up to 386 miles of range.
    • The electric Juke will be produced at Nissan’s UK Sunderland factory using the Renault-Nissan CMF-EV platform, likely sharing battery options and a single-motor, front-wheel-drive system with the Leaf.
    • Despite initial plans for the electric Juke to replace the combustion engine model, Nissan will offer both to cater to different customer preferences in the uncertain EV market.
    • The electric Juke will not be available in Canada, but Canadian EV enthusiasts can look forward to other models like the Leaf, which qualifies for federal and provincial incentives, and upcoming hybrids like the 2027 Nissan Rogue E-Power.

Nissan has announced the upcoming launch of a fully electric Juke set to arrive in Europe in 2027, alongside an updated version of the existing combustion engine model. Initially, the plan was for the electric Juke to completely replace its gasoline counterpart. However, due to the current uncertainty surrounding electric vehicle (EV) sales, Nissan has decided to offer both models.

The electric Juke features a distinctive design, inspired by the dramatic Hyper Punk concept unveiled in 2024. While it is a more subdued interpretation, it still boasts an eye-catching appearance with its angular, flat-shaded 3D model aesthetic—each polygon sharply defined.

Production of the Juke EV will take place at Nissan’s Sunderland factory in the UK. It will utilize the Renault-Nissan CMF-EV platform, which is also used by other models in the Alliance group, including the Leaf, also manufactured at the same facility. Although specific technical details have not yet been released, it is expected to share the Leaf’s 52-kilowatt-hour and 75.1-kWh batteries, offering up to 386 miles (622 kilometres) of range under the WLTP testing cycle.

Despite the platform’s capability for a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, the Juke will probably follow the Leaf’s configuration of a single-motor, front-wheel-drive system. The Leaf’s most powerful variant boasts 215 horsepower and 261 pound-feet (355 Newton-metres) of torque, achieving 0-62 miles per hour (100 kilometres per hour) in 7.6 seconds, with a top speed of 99 miles per hour (160 kilometres per hour).

Offering two very similar EVs on the same platform may seem redundant, but Nissan believes each model appeals to different customer bases. Clíodhna Lyons, Nissan’s Region Vice President for Product, Brand & Marketing Strategy, stated, “Juke has always represented bold design and a challenge to convention. With this third generation, we’re bringing that spirit into the electric age. As our first fully electric Juke, it will attract new customers and broaden our electrified lineup.”

Although they share similar powertrains, the Juke is expected to provide a sportier driving experience than the Leaf, which is already praised for its handling. Our U.S. test drive of the new Leaf revealed impressive driving dynamics, and we anticipate the Juke to enhance on this, although it will remain exclusive to the European market.

    Canadian Context

While the electric Juke will not be available in Canada, Canadian EV enthusiasts can look forward to other exciting electric models hitting our market. Nissan Canada currently offers the Leaf, which qualifies for federal iZEV incentives and various provincial rebates. For instance, Ontario residents can benefit from additional provincial incentives, making EV ownership more affordable.

Additionally, Canadian drivers interested in electric crossovers may soon see new models like the 2027 Nissan Rogue E-Power, providing a hybrid option similar to the popular Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. As the EV market evolves, staying informed about both European and North American releases will help Canadian consumers make the best choices for their driving needs.
